At LASER World of Photonics 2023, visitors to Ushio Europe’s booth can expect to explore a wide range of solid-state lighting processes and products, including the extensive laser diode and light-emitting diode (LED) collection. Key focus areas will be near-infrared (NIR: 700–1000 nm) and short-wavelength infrared (SWIR: 1050–1750 nm) solutions for LEDs, and Ushio’s expanding range of laser diodes with cutting-edge features. The latest laser developments include several world-firsts & broken records, while the introduction of temperature-resistant and further miniaturization to Ushio’s laser diode collection brings advancements for compact projectors, quantum technology, biomedical devices, and 3D printing.

Recent LASER World of Photonics Innovations from Ushio Europe
- World’s first 200 mW single-mode, continuous-wave red laser diodes: In the running for the LASER World of Photonics Innovation Award 2023, Ushio engineers have developed the world’s first single-mode, continuous wave (CW) red laser diodes (LDs) with 200 mW output power and 5 nm wavelength increments, ranging from 660 nm to 705 nm. The AlGaInP-based HL67001DG & HL69001DG LDs offer reliable performance, high wall plug efficiency (>30%), and excellent temperature characteristics up to 75°C. These innovations contribute to advancements in sensing, biomedical, and quantum technology applications. The laser diodes’ wavelength can be adjusted by controlling temperature, making them ideal for various applications, including quantum technology, where specific wavelengths are required. The products come in market-standard TO-CANs, providing a smaller system footprint and relatively lower prices compared to larger systems.
- Spectro Broadband LEDs: Ushio’s Spectro series of broadband LEDs have gained popularity in hyperspectral imaging, optical food sorting, and machine vision equipment applications due to their record output power of 180 mW. Read more…
