JEC 2023: Ushio rolls out improved IR processes with products for composite industry

The Ushio Europe Group is finally gearing up for a return to Paris’ Parc des Expositions de Villepinte, for JEC World 2023. From 25–27 April, Ushio will be introducing Composite Materials industry delegates to the EmitFit IR lamp power-mount, twin tube lamps, and some new IR pin lamp reflectors, at Hall 6, Stand R11.

EmitFit simplifies composites irradiation with quick-release IR lamp mount at JEC 2023

Ushio presents the EmitFit series of infrared lamp fittings. Replacing the old EasyFit line, the upgraded quick-release ceramic base allows swift lamp exchange without costing a moment of production time. The main benefit of the new design is the reduced size of the light fitting, which maximises the area devoted to the IR irradiation.

While inserting the IR lamp into the lamp holder, the emitter is both electrically integrated and mechanically mounted at the same time. EmitFit technology can be combined with all single-tube IR lamps – even with customised ones. EmitFit is individually adjustable and combines convenience and functionality. Meanwhile, owners of Ushio’s previous IR mounting system, EasyFit, can be sure the old-style lamp fittings will still be available.

Twin tubes double infrared power to JEC 2023 with dual-filament lamp constructions

Twin tube lamps are special IR emitters consisting of two quartz tubes, each containing an infrared-emitting filament, that have been fused together. A unique characteristic of the twin tube construction is the extraordinary mechanical robustness and stability, while emitting twice the IR power as a single tube lamp. A rapid heat-up time of just a few seconds makes it possible to switch the emitter on and off frequently. Customisation is possible as Ushio stands ready to apply modifications, such as integrated ceramic reflectors, universal burning position, and waterproofing.

Twin tube lamp applications

  • Activating adhesives
  • Drying of varnish and paper
  • Heating of composite materials
  • Heating or fusing of synthetics
  • Heating prior to flash freezing
  • Lamination and shrinking of foils
  • Semiconductor and photovoltaic production
  • Welding of synthetic fluid reservoirs

The high-power twin tube lamps from Ushio are incredibly robust and can be incorporate single- or double-ended electrical contact designs. With various filament designs available, you are free to select short- (SWIR) or medium-wavelength infrared (MWIR) radiation output.

Ushio introduces new reflectors for popular IR pin lamps at JEC 2023

Ushio’s single-ended, pin type IR lamps are a series of powerful, yet compact, IR radiation sources. While some models can be delivered with a reflective coating, which focuses the radiation in the desired direction, Ushio’s modular reflectors allow operators more control over each lamp’s output. As an alternative to customised, bent IR lamps, the pin lamp and accompanying reflector have been designed to accommodate universal burning positions. Not only that, there is no limit to the number of reflectors that can be linked together.

Intended applications for IR pin lamps and modular reflectors

  • 3D Printing
  • Complex Contour Heating
  • Fibre Placement Systems
  • Plastic Thermoforming
  • Rapid Heating
  • Riveting
  • Spot Welding
  • and many more…

Increase efficiency with modular reflectors for Ushio IR Pin Lamps

IR pin lamp reflectors offer a compact, flexible solution for uniform heating applications that involve limited installation space or require a complex heating pattern. Distinct reflector designs also allow a choice of heat distributions. For some applications, focusing the IR emissions onto a single spot is ideal, such as static heating processes. Others require the concentration of radiation into a linear beam profile, suitable for conveyor belt or zone-heating applications. Any shape, pattern, or layout can be formed to provide pin-point heating patterns.

Ushio IR pin lamp reflector specifications

  • Dimensions (spot beam): 28.8 x 25.3 x 48.2 mm
  • Dimensions (linear beam): 52 x 33 x 54 mm
  • Designed to treat substrates from a distance of 30–100 mm
  • Compatible sockets are available to fit all Ushio IR pin lamps, from 80–200 W
  • Various colour temperatures available
  • Unlimited reflectors link together for uninterrupted irradiance
  • Achieves uniform irradiance in any shape, pattern, or layout
  • Significantly improves system efficiency and power density
  • Reflector and pin lamps burn at any angle
  • Extremely durable construction

Infrared Application Lab: Ushio invites customers to test their application solutions

Planning the most effective installation of an IR heat source can be troublesome. Unique constructions are completely feasible, but rigorous testing procedures must be carried out to get the best out of your equipment. The Ushio team is ready to support you throughout the investigation process at the purpose-built Infrared Application Laboratory, in Steinhöring, Bavaria, Germany.

Using bespoke heat-mapping software, our engineers can attempt to replicate certain parts of your heat treatment process in the lab. Once the desired effect is identified and simulated in the lab, Ushio can tell you exactly where your heat is going, and advise you on how to reproduce those results at your own production site. If necessary, modifications can be made and you will soon be on your way to the perfect IR solution.
