New USHIO Red Laser Diodes perfected for Laser TV and projection applications

Huge optical output enables outstanding image quality

USHIO has launched two new visible wavelength red laser diodes on full production to meet the growing demands of the global market, both with TM mode oscillation. The two new diodes are designed with a massive optical output, meaning use in Laser projection equipment and Laser TVs is ideal, creating outstanding image quality and vivid colour without compromise to a sleek and compact design.

The HL63283HD, housed in a 9mm CAN package with high heat dissipation and a high wall plug efficiency of 40%, gives a huge 1.2W of optical output power at a typical centre lasing wavelength of 637nm at 25 degrees centigrade. The operating temperature range of the diode is between -10 and+45 degrees centigrade and the typical operating voltage is 2.3V. The LD reverse voltage is 2V with a typical threshold current of 340mA, with an operating current of 1300mA. The typical beam divergence parallel to the junction is at 10 degrees and perpendicular to the junction is at 33 degrees.

The HL63290HD, housed also in a 9mm CAN package with high heat dissipation and a high wall plug efficiency of 40%, given an even higher optical output power of 2.2W CW at a typical centre lasing wavelength of 638nm at 25 degrees centigrade. The operating temperature range of the HL63290HD diode is between -10 and +55 degrees centigrade and the typical operating voltage is slightly higher at 2.4V. The LD reverse voltage is 2V with a typical threshold current of 600mA, with an operating current of 2400mA. The typical beam divergence parallel to the junction is at 10 degrees and perpendicular to the junction is at 33 degrees.

Both laser diodes are perfected for use in laser projectors, Laser TVs and as the main light source of optical equipment, however, the HL63283HD Laser Diode can also be used in show laser applications.

“The need for power is not showing signs of slowing”

“USHIO recognises that the need for increased power laser diodes is not showing signs of slowing thus we are wholly committed to meeting the demands of the global market which is evident by our commitment to mass production. Not only that, we also have the in-house knowledge and expertise to deliver high quality products and the option to create tailor-made total solutions. Our new laser diodes enable overall maximum output power without increasing the number of components and potentially impacting the manufacturers intended design thus enabling sleek, slim and streamlined TVs or projector equipment – critical to the success of the manufacturer in an ever competitive industry.” Explains Ardan Fuessmann, Director SSL, Ushio Germany.

Irrespective of the new laser diodes’ massive optical output power, both offer a high wall-plug efficiency rate of 40 per cent thus reducing electrical power consumption and the amount of heat that must be removed from the unit. This is critical in that it not only reduces electricity consumption but also reduces the demand upon the electrical installation and the cooling system, resulting in an overall reduction in size of the laser package.

The new USHIO laser diodes (HL63283HD and HL63290HD) are now on full production and for any sales related enquiries, please contact Ardan Fuessmann (Ardan.fuessmann@ushio.de), Director SSL, Ushio Europe or Maarten Gerkes (Maarten.gerkes@ushio.de), Sales Manager SSL, Ushio Europe.
