Care222® lamps are not standalone luminaires, but instead consist of individual components which are strictly intended for integration into solutions produced by qualified original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Care222® components cannot be supplied to distributors or private individuals. The guidelines published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) are referenced in a number of international standards and laws regulating human exposure to UV radiation. The current exposure recommendations are outlined by the European Commission in directive 2006/25/EC, and the IEC 62471-2 photo-biological safety standards, which classifies Care222® lamps as a member of risk group 3. Directive 2006/25/EC outlines a protocol to calculate the maximum allowed daily exposure based on the wavelength of radiation source and the assumption of an 8 hour working day (similar to the ACGIH guidelines). OEMs are advised to re-assess the maximum allowed daily exposure value after implementation of Care222® into their product. One method to reduce daily radiation exposure is to lower the irradiance or limit the daily exposure time. Depending on the intended application, it is advised to also take other regulations regarding UV exposure into account, for instance, 2006/123/EG or IEC/DIN EN 60335-2-27. Please be aware that the maximum permitted daily UV exposure limits may vary by region. Although preliminary research data indicate that 222 nm radiation does not penetrate the eye, general precautions are highly recommended. Do not look directly into the light source. Switch off the light source or wear eye protection if you are in close proximity. OEMs operating within the European Economic Area (EEA) are bound by mandatory European health, safety, environmental, and electrical standards, which subsequently advocates their full responsibility to correctly inform the end-user of any risk factors, restrictions, and/or necessary safety protocol.

Before operating any form of ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitting lamp, component, or device, please consider the current precautionary regulations related to UV-human exposure, including the UV wavelengths emitted by Care222® lamps.

The incorporation of a Care222® lamp into the design of an OEM-manufactured luminaire requires comprehensive knowledge and experience in the handling of high voltage electrical equipment; taking precautionary measures against exposure to harmful UV radiation; and dealing with electromagnetic field reduction (see EU directive 2013/35 EU).

In order to provide technical specifications and to go into closer discussion with OEM partners an NDA will be required. Furthermore it shall be agreed on the product concept, applications and the operation mode of the OEM partner product. Finally, prior to the commencement of OEM partner mass production, an agreement on the OEM product specifications and a supplier contract shall be signed.
