General information

UV-emitters, often named as UV-lamps, belong to the general group of gas discharge lamps. According to DIN 5031-7, the UV-radiation is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum between 100 and 380 nm. Unlike in filament lamps, a gas discharge (light arc) is built up between two electrodes, which are themselves in line with the emitter. The distance between the electrodes is known as the arc length. The UV-emitter is filled with noble gas (mostly argon) and mercury. Using further components, particular areas of the spectrum can be modified like displacement or adjustment. This process of appending additional materials (e.g. iron or gallium) is well-known as "doping". Consequently, the emitter is then named "doped UV-emitter" or "doped UV-lamp".

Generally, USHIO produces UV-lamps with up to 3 m overall length, different spectra and with manifold power levels. We're able to produce pinch sealed UV lamps, too. This technology reduces the overall length at an unchanged electrode distance.

Looking at the longevity of UV-lamps, USHIO offers them at a high sophisticated level: the V Power Long Life Technology guarantees low power degradation during the whole lamp life. The UV power is more or less stable. Additionally our Ever Clear Technology secures the lamp against early blackening. The combination of both technologies lead to our high quality level.

A unique feature for UV-emitters is our Click Socket. The lamp exchange is extremely easy, because the emitter is both electrically attached and at the same time mechanically mounted.

Special designed UV-lamps with the well-known Quick Start Technology are available for up to 10.000 Watt. The essential feature of these high performance UV-lamps is the quick rising time of 3 to 5 seconds after switch-on. Also the life time is positively influenced.

The UV-lamp works the best, if feeded by a fitting power supply. USHIO completes its product range with a High Efficiency Electronic Power Supply, that can be adjusted from 700 W to 3600 W. Higher power levels are planned in the future.

If the UV-lamp is used in an application with a conveyor system. our UV Meter helps for easily measuring the UV-power in your machine right before operation, or in interrupt cycles also.

For all UV paper printing applications, the UV Curing Tester gives the ability to quickly check the quality in production. The test process works automatically, you just have to prepare a test sample with the sheet metal stencil.

The Ultranova Spot Curing System offers with its small fiber optic UV beam versatile use for curing adhesives, coatings or inks. It's also used in destructive test applications and for forensic sciences.
